Home made Home Theater Server (HTS) – Part II
In the previous post I showed the basic hardware I bought to make this little kid run, as soon as all this components arrive you’ll be planning to build a case for them. I say build and not buy for a simple reason: cases like the one I was looking for start at 400€…!
Following I will show you some pics of my (almost finished) case, this is my second attempt at building one, the first one was made of wood and plexiglass.. But finding this old VHS recorder gave me the good idea of converting it to a computer case. Unfortunately I don’t have images form the building process, but it was not an hard job:
- first open the VHS box (don’t lose the screws as I did)
- remove ALL unnecessary stuff, leaving the outside as intact as you can (btw it’s all up to you)
- plan components disposition according to their size, function, and connections
- put it all together paying attention to air flow
- create openings for buttons and outputs (USB)
Here is my baby:
N.B.
The Power Supply Unit has been opened so that it takes less spaces and in order to have just one fan to cool down all the components.
The fan is oriented so that it takes air from the inside and throws it outside, in this way the HDD temperature is always less then 44°C otherwise it did rise up to more than 50°C..
