Shooting the sky
Lately I have been keen on taking pictures and time lapses of the sky and its wonderful happenings. You can see two examples here:
In this two short videos it was fundamental to know the exact position of the moon and the sun for a determined time of the day. So here they come two great freeware tools:
Stellarium
Official website: Stellarium
It’s an open source planetarium, available for Linux, Win and Mac. From here you just set your position and time and it will show you the atmosphere as it is in that exact moment. I did use it for the lunar eclipse and it was amazing accurate!
Plus tip: you can create custom backgrounds as I did by taking a 360×180 panorama (see VR section of this website for hundreds of examples) to exactly see what you will see from that location (you have to be very precise but it works!).

Download the landscape ZIP file here.
The Photographer’s Ephemeris
Official website: The Photographer’s Ephemeris
This other great tool works differently, it shows on a Google map the position of the sun and the moon during the day it also gives you the exact time of rise and set of both (plus lots of other information).
Conclusion
These two tools combined together will tell you all you need to know when shooting the sky, a landscape, a sunset ecc..!
Hope it will be useful to you, please if it does post a link to the result!
